
SEDIBENG.- The football fraternity is waiting in anticipation to witness history when the South Africa U17 National Team faces Japan in the U17 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 match in Qatar on Saturday.
Amajimbos made history as they qualified for the World Cup knockout stage after finishing as the runners-up, second to Italy in Group A. Despite a 3-1 defeat to Italy in the last game of the group, Amajimbos booked their place in the last 32.
Amajimbos not only made history by qualifying for the last 32, but also became the first South African National Team to win their World Cup opening match. Their game against Japan is a decisive match for Vele Khumalo and his boys.
The whole country will be waiting in anticipation as Amajimbos take the field on Saturday. This game is going to be exciting, looking at the profiles of both nations when it comes to football. However, Japan has the upper hand, looking at their previous achievements, especially their senior national team.
With Amajimbos, this is their second appearance in the biggest stage of football, following their debut in this competition back in 2015. But having said that, SA is capable of causing an upset come Saturday.
There were images of SA players trending on social media with their coach, Vela Khumalo, helping them with their studies, as some of them are busy with exams. To date, Khumalo is a former teacher and school principal.
Khumalo said his room after training became a classroom.
Back to the game against Japan, Khumalo said it is going to be a tough encounter for both nations.
