Women unite to break generational trauma and rebuild stronger families
Founder Lungile Mauvhelwana envisions a world where women and children thrive beyond trauma.
The Chayil Substantial Women, a movement dedicated to transforming trauma into triumph, recently hosted The Lioness and Her Cubs Empowered Together conference in Henley-on-Klip. The event was supported by the Midvaal Local Municipality, LifeLine Vaal, and the Graced Gem Organisation.
Through this initiative, founder Lungile Mauvhelwana aims to help families rebuild stronger bonds by breaking intergenerational trauma and the recurring patterns that influence emotional pain within homes.
“As a young woman who understands the impact of trauma on mother–child relationships, I wanted to share my experience and show others that breaking away from trauma is possible. This theme celebrates the strength of mothers and women who are breaking cycles of trauma and empowering future generations to thrive.”
Mauvhelwana explained that the conference equips attendees with practical tools and strategies to recognise and overcome intergenerational trauma. The sessions focused on fostering emotional resilience, nurturing healthy relationships, and promoting positive parenting practices.
One of the most powerful moments of the event came when speakers shared their personal journeys of overcoming trauma and reclaiming their identities. A statement that deeply resonated with attendees was:
“Trauma is a systematic prison introduced by the enemy to deprive you of your God-given identity, keeping you and your lineage in bondage. Refuse it and break away from it.”
Guest Speaker Midvaal MMC Chantal Gomes highlighted the importance of nurturing resilience in children, encouraging healthy coping mechanisms, and helping young people take responsibility for their actions.
Throughout the conference, speakers offered heartfelt insights on healing, resilience, and creating positive change within families. They shared practical advice on breaking trauma cycles, rebuilding trust, and fostering emotionally healthy homes.
Mauvhelwana shared her vision for the movement’s future:
“Our long-term goal is to create a supportive community that fosters healing, growth, and positive change. We want every woman and mother to know they have the power to break intergenerational trauma cycles and create a brighter future for their families. Prioritise your healing, seek support, and know you’re not alone.”
She envisions expanding The Chayil Substantial Women into a global movement that provides families with resources, workshops, and opportunities to heal, grow, and thrive together.
