Men are positive role players
Communities were encouraged to make use of the services that are available at the local police stations.
SHARPEVILLE.- The Sharpeville police together with different stakeholders embarked on a Gender Based Violence (GBV) awareness campaign at Tehiilah Community Church in Tshepiso, Phase 2 on Monday.
The purpose of the day was to demonstrate the slogan ‘Men as Positive Role Models’.
The stakeholders included:

- FCS
- Emfuleni Social Crime Prevention
- CFP executive
- GTW
- Youth Desk
- Siyabangena Patrollers
- Men as Safety Promoters (MAPS)
- .Gender Based Violence Brigades
- Be Sure Hope Foundation
- Indibano Victim Empowerment
The speakers of the day touched on their experiences as Gender Based Violence (GBV), and how to defeat it.
Police spokesperson, Constable Busisiwe Sango, said that communities were encouraged to make use of the services that are available at the local police stations and from the NGO’s and also to go out and seek help if they face challenges.
“Pamphlets with important information regarding Gender based violence were distributed to the community approximately 100 pamphlets were distributed. The outcomes of the campaign were positive approximately 80 community members were reached,” Sango ended.
