SASOLBURG – Members of the Disability Civil Movement marched to the Fezile Dabi District Municipality offices recently to present a complaint letter and a memorandum outlining their concerns and demands related to the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities.
The letter and memo were formally acknowledged and received by Executive Mayor Dennis Khasudi, who expressed appreciation for the movement’s proactive engagement.
The march highlighted a range of issues, including calls for improved accessibility of public infrastructure, the training of municipal staff in sign language, and the provision of municipal records in audio and braille formats to ensure equal access to information.
Khasudi is committed to responding within the stipulated 14 days.
“I acknowledge the Complaint Letter and Memorandum. I will carefully consider the concerns raised and will comprehensively engage with local municipalities, the taxi association, members of Council, and management to explore ways to address them. We will work closely with our District Disability Committee and relevant partners to find sustainable solutions. I also encourage the establishment of local disability forums to strengthen communication and collaboration. Thank you for your initiative – the district is here to serve its community.”
The mayor further assured that the memorandum will be given due consideration, reflecting the municipality’s dedication to engaging with disability issues and promoting the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities.
