Triumph reigns as Rust-Ter-Vaal School is handed over

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has officially handed over the newly built Rust-Ter-Vaal Secondary School in Vereeniging. The state-of-the-art facility marks the completion of a decade-long project and brings renewed hope to the local community.

VEREENIGING – A spirit of triumph reigned in Rust-Ter-Vaal recently as Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, flanked by Education MEC Matome Chiloane, Infrastructure Development MEC Jacob Mamabolo, and Sedibeng District Municipality Mayor Lerato Maloka, handed over the newly built Rust-Ter-Vaal Secondary School.

The state-of-the-art facility boasts smart boards on which teachers can write using their fingers, and it also allows teachers to save and retrieve notes for learners who are not in class. A home economics class fitted with the latest cooking hardware made a big impression on guests, including Lesufi, who urged the school to take care of and sustain the resources.

Lesufi said that the school has the potential to become a school of specialisation, which would produce more skilled pupils.

During the official handover ceremony, the school hall was filled with members of the community who came to witness the completion and handover of the school, which had taken almost a decade to complete.

Lesufi highlighted that the project had been delayed due to issues stemming from the community and the previous contractor. Lesufi thanked both the MECs for ensuring that the project is completed and the dignity of pupils restored.

“While this project remained incomplete, these children were subjected to studying in a building that had asbestos, which is illegal.”

Chiloane urged the school and the community at large to take care of the facility as it is there to ensure the bright futures of generations to come. Chiloane said he expects excellent results from this school, and he said that this can be achieved through hard work, respect, and dedication. He urged the principal to set a good example for his entire staff and pupils.

The event boasted a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the official handover of the keys by Mamabolo to Chiloane.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster following the event, residents said they are grateful that such a beautiful home has been created for their kids to thrive.

“It took us a very long time to get here; this is not only a win for the kids but for the Rust-Ter-Vaal community at large.”
