Radebe sends condolences to morning accident victims’ families

"The safety of our learners must never be compromised."

SEDIBENG.- The Executive Mayor of Emfuleni Local Municipality, Sipho Radebe, has conveyed his condolences to the families, friends, educators, and the broader school communities affected by the tragic accident that occurred this morning January 19 at approximately 07:30, involving a scholar transport taxi and a truck.

” We are devastated by the loss of 13 learners and the injuries sustained by five (5) learners who are currently receiving medical care. This heartbreaking incident has shaken our municipality and the nation at large. No words can adequately express the sorrow we feel for the families who have lost their beloved children, whose lives were cut short while simply on their way to pursue their education and dreams. On behalf of the Emfuleni Local Municipality and its residents, I extend heartfelt sympathies and condolences to all those grieving during this painful time. We also wish the injured learners a full and speedy recovery and assure them and their families of our thoughts and prayers.”

Radebe said that this tragedy serves as a solemn reminder of the immense responsibility carried by all road users, particularly those entrusted with the transportation of children.

“I urge all scholar transport drivers to exercise the highest level of vigilance, patience, and care at all times. The safety of our learners must never be compromised. Let this message guide us all: “Rather late than never.” Arriving safely is far more important than arriving quickly. We call on drivers, transport operators, and parents to work together to ensure that every child reaches school and returns home safely. May the souls of the departed learners rest in eternal peace, and may their families find comfort, strength, and healing in this difficult time.”
