Zone 13 electrification progress welcomed

“The installation of meter boxes marks tangible progress, and we are confident that full restoration of electricity will follow soon."

SEDIBENG.- The DA in Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) has welcomed the progress made towards restoring electricity to residents of Zone 13.
The residents have endured prolonged darkness for an extended period.

Thabo Motsoane, DA Councillor in Sedibeng, said that while power has not yet been fully restored, Eskom has now begun installing meter boxes in the area.

“This is a critical step towards lawful and sustainable reconnection. This development follows sustained and determined engagement by the DA with Eskom. Over the past months, the DA has continuously engaged Eskom, submitted formal correspondence, tabled a community petition, and conducted consistent follow-ups to ensure accountability and urgency in resolving this matter.”

The DA also worked closely with the residents of Zone 13, encouraging compliance with Eskom’s requirements to facilitate a structured and lasting solution.

“The installation of meter boxes marks tangible progress, and we are confident that full restoration of electricity will follow soon. This demonstrates that persistent, responsive leadership makes a difference. The DA remains firmly committed to standing with the community until the lights are fully restored. Access to electricity is a basic service — not a privilege.”
