Decomposing body of missing woman recovered in Meyerton

The Meyerton police have launched an investigation into the death of a woman after her body was found dumped.

MEYERTON – The police have recovered the decomposing body of a woman at an open veld near Meydustria, days after she was reported missing.

According to police spokesperson Constable Nompumelelo Zazini, on March 3, police launched a missing person’s case after it was alleged that the victim’s husband had stabbed her and locked her inside their house.

Zazini said a search ensued, but neither the husband nor the wife could be found. Police continued the search for the missing woman, and on March 5, the man was found by the CPF patrollers at Vereeniging.

“He was taken to the Vereeniging Police Station. The Meyerton police were informed, and he was fetched from Vereeniging.”

Zazini says the husband was taken in for questioning and later confessed to killing his wife. The suspect later took the police to an open veld near Meydustria, where the body had been dumped.

The body was placed in a recycling bag, thrown in the stream with a tyre placed on top. The man was arrested and charged.

Zazini confirms that a murder case docket has been launched, adding that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
