SEBOKENG.- The Vaal was well-represented on the international stage as Sharpeville’s own Relebohile Mofokeng and Tshepang Moremi both earned spots in the starting line-up for Bafana Bafana’s second-leg friendly against Panama.
Although South Africa suffered a narrow 2-1 loss to the lesser-known Central American side at DHL Stadium on Tuesday night, the local youngsters played a great game.
Broos had no choice
Following a brilliant substitute performance in the 1-1 draw during the first friendly, Sedibeng Ster Sport predicted Mofokeng would start this encounter. Hugo Broos seemingly had no choice but to name the youngster in his team after his marvellous performance earlier in the week.
Mofokeng, currently the player of the moment after scooping consecutive Player of the Month awards for January, February, and March, lived up to the hype. He produced moments of magic that delighted the capacity crowd, providing several brilliant assists that were unfortunately wasted by teammates in finishing positions.
They brought the Sharpeville lingo into the pitch
Mofokeng was joined by his homeboy, Moremi, who put in a decent shift on the left flank. The duo brought a distinct Sharpeville lingo to the pitch, combining effectively and taking the game to the opponents with relentless energy.
There is no doubt that these two local stars will be part of the Bafana Bafana team that will represent the country at the Fifa World Cup 2026 in June.
Since taking the reins, Broos has focused on building a squad around young talent. Broos’ faith in youth is being rewarded, as these local stars continue to show they possess the quality to compete at the highest level.
