A successful Easter road safety operation in Heidelberg
A multidisciplinary police operation along the N3 near Heidelberg led to multiple arrests, vehicle checks, and traffic fines as authorities intensified Easter weekend safety measures in Sedibeng.
Police in the Sedibeng District have conducted a successful holiday crackdown after a major operation on the N3 highway near Heidelberg.
Officers launched Operation Paseka to keep the peace and ensure road safety throughout the busy Easter weekend. Led by District Commissioner Major General Nkhensani Mukwevho, the multidisciplinary team included local police, traffic officers, and Home Affairs officials.
During the high-visibility patrols, officers arrested 20 people for being undocumented. A further two suspects were detained for drug possession after police found quantities of crystal meth and nyaope.
Operational successes include 691 persons and 152 vehicles searched, seven firearms tested, the verification of 87 persons and 70 vehicles in the system, and the issuance of 24 traffic fines totalling R8 900.
“The successful execution of Operation Paseka demonstrates SAPS’s continued commitment to ensuring the safety of all road users and communities, particularly during high-traffic periods such as the Easter season,” said Sergeant Tintswalo Ndhambi.
The police confirmed that these intensive operations will continue across the district to combat crime and maintain public safety.
