SEBOKENG.- The Easter mania soccer tournaments concluded at various venues in Sedibeng.
It was football galore at various venues this past Easter weekend. The two major soccer tournaments were the UK Soccer Tournament and the Master Zondo Foundation Tournament.
It took place at the Sebokeng Ajax and UK grounds in Zone 12 and Zone 7.
Local fans enjoyed themselves
Local soccer fans packed these venues to capacity, especially the UK Soccer Tournament, to watch Kasi football.
It was talent galore as the players entertained the crowd with their skills. Some of the teams that featured in this annual UK Soccer Tournament were powerhouses of Kasi football, such as Government FC, Black Pirates FC, Ben Ten FC, Beke Le Beke, and Vaal Juventus, to mention a few.
On the other hand, the Master Zondo Soccer Tournament saw the Emfuleni Local Football Association (ELFA) junior soccer teams participating.
The tournament is all for the development of football
The tournament is purely for the development of football in Emfuleni. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, the organisers of both tournaments said every year, local soccer fans spend their Easter holidays watching Kasi football at the venues.
They told Sedibeng Ster Sport that it has become a soccer fan tradition to spend the Easter holidays watching entertaining football. Zondo, who is behind the Master Zondo Foundation, said the tournament was a huge success.
He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that this year’s tournament saw 32 teams battling for the prize money and soccer equipment. Sebokeng Brazil FC were crowned champions of the U11 division after they beat Vaal Octopus FC 4-3 on penalties.
Soccer Promoters FC was crowned the U13 champions after they beat Polokong Sporting United FC 2-1 in another final, while Sebokeng Ajax FC overcame Mayora FC to become the U15 champions. The tournament host beat Manyora FC 1-0.
Vaal Gardens Sports Academy was crowned the U17 champions after they beat Sebokeng Ajax FC 1-0. Manyora FC redeemed themselves, beating Sebokeng Ajax FC 7-6 in the U19 finals.
There were also individual prizes for players who were outstanding for their respective teams throughout the tournament.
