SDM announces appointment of new Mayoral Committee Members
"The municipality looks forward to their leadership and dedication as they take up their responsibilities in service of the people of Sedibeng.”
SEDIBENG.- The Sedibeng District Municipality’s (SDM) Executive Mayor, Lerato Maloka, has announced the appointment of new Mayoral Committee (MMC) members.
This follows a Special Council sitting held on Tuesday.
The SDM said that the reshuffle comes in response to several vacancies within the Mayoral Committee and signals the Executive Mayor’s commitment to ensuring effective and uninterrupted service delivery across the district.
The ruling party recently severed ties with the PAC
The ruling party in the SDM, the African National Congress (ANC), recently severed ties with the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) which it was in a coalition with, together with several other small parties, which is one of the reasons necessitating the changes.
ANC Sedibeng Spokesperson, Mphikeleli Msibi, congratulated all councillors who have been appointed.
“We wish them well in their new responsibilities,” he said.
“The Executive Mayor took the opportunity to restructure portfolio responsibilities while also filling vacant positions, ensuring that all key service delivery areas remain capacitated and focused,” the SDM said.
The Sedibeng District Municipality Mayoral Committee is now constituted as follows:
Cllr. ML Khomoeasera MMC: Finance
Cllr. RM Hlakane MMC: Corporate Services
Cllr. NF Mokoena MMC: Local Economic Development
Cllr. MC Mboweni MMC: Human Settlement
Cllr. GM Njokwe MMC: Community Safety, Sports, Recreation, Arts, Culture & Heritage
Cllr. B Mkhize MMC: Health and Social Development
Cllr. N Ndwandwe MMC: Transport and Infrastructure
One portfolio remains vacant
The portfolio of MMC: Environment and Clean Air remain vacant.
“The appointment to this portfolio will be announced at a later date once the process has been finalised. Sedibeng District Municipality warmly congratulates all newly appointed MMCs and welcomes them to their respective portfolios. The municipality looks forward to their leadership and dedication as they take up their responsibilities in service of the people of Sedibeng.”
