Mayibuye leads ‘People’s Inspection Programme’ in Zone 20

“It will never be business as usual anymore.”

SEDIBENG.- The Afrika Mayibuye Movement (Mayibuye) National Organiser, Patrick Sindane, together with residents of Zone 20 Phase 1 in Sebokeng conducted a ‘People’s Inspection Programme’ regarding what they said were the terrible condition and poor quality of roads in the area on Tuesday.

During the inspection, residents signed a petition and openly expressed their frustrations over the collapsing road infrastructure, the complete lack of storm water drainage systems throughout the area since its establishment in the late 1990s.

The Afrika Mayibuye Movement National Organiser, Patrick Sindane (left), speaks to the residents on Tuesday.

“Residents indicated that roads have deteriorated to such an extent that motorists no longer use what was once regarded as the main road due to massive potholes, stagnant water, mud, flooding and dangerous driving conditions.”

The standing water has further created an unhealthy environment that attracts mosquitoes, insects, rodents and increases the risk of diseases and infections, while also affecting the dignity, safety and mobility of the community.

Sindane, stated that this is not the first time he has raised the plight of Zone 20 residents.

He previously raised the matter while serving as a Member of Parliament (MP), during his tenure in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, and even earlier when he served as a Proportional Councillor (PR) in the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM).

Community demands immediate action

Sindane noted that Zone 20 has historically been known for its militancy and resilience, warning that “it will never be business as usual anymore” while residents continue to suffer under deteriorating living conditions and municipal neglect.

“I will soon lead a delegation of residents to formally submit the petition to the Office of the Executive Mayor, who will then be expected to share the matter with the affected municipal departments for urgent intervention. Residents have made it clear that the municipality must never treat this matter as one of those simple issues that can be ignored or delayed indefinitely.” The community is demanding immediate action, proper roads, storm water infrastructure, and a clear commitment towards restoring dignity and safe living conditions in Zone 20.
