SEBOKENG.- The Sebokeng police in partnership with different stakeholders successfully conducted a Crime Summit at Thabo Vuyo Resource Centre in Sebokeng yesterday.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane said that the attendees were divided into six Commission groups and tasked to discuss about the development of programe of action, improvement of stakeholders relations, School safety/Youth involved in crime, Gender Based Violence and Femicide, implementation of Sector Policing, and development of fundraising programmes.

“After their discussions the team leaders were granted an opportunity to present and further give compliments, suggestions and remedies,” Mokhachane said.
Sebokeng SAPS CPF Chairperson, Biggie Nketle, explained the purpose of the crime summit to all attendees.
“It is to bring together law enforcement, government officials, and stakeholders to develop actionable, innovative strategies for reducing high crime levels. It focuses on enhancing police efficiency, fostering community partnerships, and implementing technology-driven solutions to improve safety and security.”

Prince Kubheka from the Gauteng Provincial Legislature Public Participation addressed the problems that the community is currently facing. He outlined that as a department they have to come up with solutions and resources in order to ensure that the police have sufficient resource to execute their duties.
Sebokeng SAPS Vispol Support Commander Lieutenant Colonel Nhlapo stressed out the importance of prioritising community safety and elaborated further about the purpose of the crime summit as follows:
Create Actionable Plans: Develop short- and medium-term plans to address crime, specifically targeting violent crimes like murder, rape, and hijackings.
Enhance Collaboration: Strengthen partnerships between the South African Police Service (SAPS), private security, and community members.
Combat Corruption: Address corruption within law enforcement to improve trust and professionalism.
Leverage Technology: Explore the use of drones and improved intelligence-driven policing techniques.
Restore Public Trust: Create a “popular front against crime” that builds trust between police and communities, ensuring residents feel safe.
She further thanked everyone in attendance and assured continued police partnerships, police participation and police visibility.
