It will be history in the making!

This has never happened before!

SEDIBENG.- It will be history in the making if both Orlando Pirates young stars, Relebohile Mofokeng and Tshepang Moremi, make the final cut for the Bafana Bafana team to represent South Africa in the FIFA World Cup 2026.

This will be something Zakes’ Sports Corner will write home about – two young stars from the Vaal Triangle playing on the biggest football stage in the world.

This has never happened before!

He was given a decent sendoff

Former Bafana Bafana captain Aaron ‘Mbazo’ Mokoena was the only and the last player from the Vaal to play in the World Cup.

Mokoena, who still holds the record of most capped Bafana Bafana player, was captain when South Africa hosted the successful 2010 World Cup.

He was given a decent sendoff by the Vaal community, deservedly so! Much has been said and written about the possibilities of giving Mofokeng and Moremi the same sendoff.

The two happen to be homeboys

There is no doubt these two Orlando Pirates sensations, who happen to be homeboys from the dusty streets of Sharpeville, will be part of Broos’ team. The two are among the best players in the PSL at the moment.

They have been consistent for Orlando Pirates, with the club challenging the PSL title to date.

They will be crowned champions if they beat Orbit College

Pirates would be crowned the Betway Premier Soccer League champions if they beat Orbit College in their last game this weekend.

Mofokeng and Moremi (particularly Mofokeng) will also be among the players nominated for PSL awards at the end of the season.

Back to the World Cup, Zakes’ Sports Corner can confirm that there are plans to host a send-off for these two youngsters.

This event is set to be organised by one of the local municipalities in Vaal.

It’s every player’s dream to compete in the World Cup!

Yours truly, Zakes’ Sports Corner, welcomes this initiative, considering that it has been a while since this region has had players in the national team, especially to compete in the World Cup. It is everyone’s dream to represent their country on the biggest stage in the world.

Zakes’ Sports Corner will follow this with keen interest, with the World Cup set to kick off in two and a half weeks.

South Africa will face Mexico in the opening match of Group A on June 11.
