Community heroes keeping Boipatong clean for free

“At the moment, we lack essential tools such as spades, wheelbarrows, and gloves."

BOIPATONG.- The Itireleng Parks Team remains deeply committed to providing free cleaning services to the Boipatong community after all these years.

This cleaning project initially started during the Covid-19 lockdown. At the time, a group of local men, led by Parks Mofokeng, volunteered to clean up the historic massacre township.

Over the years, they have successfully turned illegal dumping spaces into community parks. They also clean school premises, the Boipatong Clinic, and homes for elderly people, while helping to fix the local streets and roads.

Years later, the team still offers these services completely free of charge.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, founder member Parks Mofokeng explained that nothing has changed.  “The Itireleng Parks Team is still here and serves our community. Our commitment to serve Boipatong remains the same.”

The team has now been cleaning the township and turning illegal dump sites into parks for more than five years.

Currently, the team is also busy working to fix streets that are troubled by sewage. While they do all of this work for free, Mofokeng noted that businesses and companies are more than welcome to come on board and assist.

“At the moment, we lack essential tools such as spades, wheelbarrows, and gloves,” Mofokoneg said.
