SANCO remembers Gobizithwana Massacre
"This is our transgenerational legacy: to remember with dignity, to heal with love, and to continue building communities."
SEBOKENG.-The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) Sedibeng Region members hosted the Gobizithwana Massacre Candlelight Prayer at Gobizithwana Hall, Zone 14, over the weekend.
The members said that they gathered not only to remember, but to honour the fallen heroes and heroines whose blood watered the tree of democracy and freedom.

“Their sacrifice was not in vain. It remains a living testimony that the struggles of yesterday must become the justice, peace and dignity of today. As we lit the candles, we carried the pain of the past, the responsibility of the present, and the hope of future generations. This is our transgenerational legacy: to remember with dignity, to heal with love, and to continue building communities rooted in unity, justice and freedom.”

* The “Gobizithwana Massacre” took place in 1991 in a drive-by shooting at the Gobizithwana Beerhall in Zone 14. During this incident, armed vigilantes drove into the township and opened fire on the crowd, resulting in the deaths of over 20 community members.
