Suspect arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and live ammunition in Tshepiso

SHARPEVILLE. – A multi-disciplinary operation conducted by Crime Intelligence Sedibeng District together with Sedibeng TRT led to the arrest of a suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition at Tshepiso Phase 1 recently.
SAPS Sedibeng District Corporate Communication Officer Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela said that information was received on May 17 regarding an individual allegedly in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition at Phase 1, Tshepiso.
“The information was operationalised on May 22 at approximately 02:00 when members executed a tactical adhoc operation at the identified address. Upon arrival at the premises, members found and identified the suspect. The operational team conducted a search of the premises where a 9mm Luka pistol with a filed-off serial number and eight live rounds of ammunition were recovered”
The suspect was immediately arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.
The firearm and ammunition were booked in at Sharpeville SAPS as exhibits.
Maxambela said that the estimated value of the recovered firearm and ammunition is approximately R5 000.
The suspect was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition.
The Acting District Commissioner of Sedibeng Brigadier Manamela commended members involved in the operation for their swift response and commitment in removing illegal firearms from the community.
Investigations are continuing and the informant has been tasked to gather more information regarding possible additional criminal activities linked to the suspect.
