SEDIBENG. – The Afrika Mayibuye Movement has warned that even the appointment of Finance MMC Hasan Mako as acting mayor will not save the collapsing Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM).
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster shortly after the publication released an online article (link below) about the ELM acting mayor, Mayibuye National Organiser Patrick Sindane, stated that the forced resignation of former Executive Mayor Sipho Radebe simply highlights the deep divisions, instability, and leadership vacuum within ANC governance.
Sindane described a grim reality for residents, who face damaged roads, flowing sewage in their streets and rivers, irregular rubbish collection, and constant water and electricity cuts.

“Yet while communities suffer, ANC factions are reportedly engaged in internal battles over positions and power,” he added.
According to the movement, simply replacing one ANC mayor with another will not solve Emfuleni’s deep-rooted crisis. Sindane argued that the disaster is the result of years of systemic failure by the governing party.
“Emfuleni requires a complete change of direction. Our founding manifesto is built on the principle that local government must serve communities before political parties,” he stressed.
To fix the municipality, Mayibuye is calling for:
* Strict accountability for all municipal officials and political office bearers.
* Professionalisation of municipal administration based on competence rather than political deployment.
* Aggressive investment in water, sanitation, roads, and electricity infrastructure.
* Transparent budgeting processes that allow residents to monitor municipal spending.
* Local economic development programmes that prioritise employment opportunities for residents.
* Strong anti-corruption measures and public oversight mechanisms to ensure every cent of public money benefits the people.
Looking ahead to the upcoming Local Government Elections, Sindane urged voters to choose between more years of collapsing services and political infighting, or a new leadership focused on rebuilding.
“Emfuleni does not need another ANC replacement. Emfuleni needs a new vision, new leadership, and a government that puts residents first,” he concluded.
