DA exposes ELM Mayor’s blunder appointment

SEDIBENG.- The DA has revealed that incoming Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Mayor, Hassan Mako, has illegally appointed a sitting MMC from the Rand West City Local Municipality into his Emfuleni Mayoral Committee.
Kingsol Chabalala, DA ELM Mayoral Candidate, said that Bruce Aldrin Nimmerhoudt of the Patriotic Alliance (PA), who was announced as Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Infrastructure, Planning & Development by Mako last week, is a sitting and serving councillor of Rand West City Local Municipality – and it now appears that he is simultaneously occupying a seat in Emfuleni Council.
It is illegal for any person to occupy a council seat in two different local municipalities at the same time.

If Nimmerhoudt is occupying two seats unlawfully, or through fraud, the DA will insist on criminal accountability.
“But breaking the law and double-dipping on taxpayer-funded salaries is very on-brand for the PA and the ANC. If Nimmerhoudt is occupying two seats unlawfully, or through fraud, the DA will insist on criminal accountability. We will refer this matter to the SAPS to investigate possible fraud,” Chabalala explained.
Chabalala further said that Emfuleni’s ANC-EFF coalition is structured to line the pockets of cadres, and now the new ANC mayor has inexplicably chosen to appoint the current PA MMC of Roads and Stormwater in the Rand West City Local Municipality, into the Emfuleni Mayoral Committee too.
The DA demands that the PA and ANC explain this situation.
“The Rand West Council has not received a resignation from Nimmerhoudt, meaning that now he is earning two salaries illegally. The DA can confirm that the IEC still records Nimmerhoudt as a sitting Councillor in Rand West. The DA demands that the PA and ANC explain this situation,” Chabalala ended.
Upon enquiry, ELM Mayoral spokesperson, Mphikeleli Msibi, said that the announcement of Nimmerhoudt was a mistake from the PA.
It was a mistake by the PA.
“It was just a mistake in the submitted name by the PA. They have since submitted a correct person.”
Rowan Wilton Lawaak is the correct name for the position of the ELM Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Infrastructure, Planning & Development.
