Business robberies on the rise in Sebokeng

“After a robbery, report the incident to SAPS immediately."

SEBOKENG: Due to a high rise in business robberies in the area recently, Sebokeng police has pleaded with the business owners to take precautionary safety measures.

Police spokesperson, Nthabiseng Mokhachane said that business robberies can happen at any time.

“Being prepared, alert, and working together with your community can reduce the risk and improve safety.”

Prevention tips for business owners:

– Install and maintain CCTV cameras and proper lighting (tighten security)

– Use alarm systems and panic buttons where possible

– Keep cash handling to a minimum and avoid displaying large amounts of money

– Make regular bank deposits and avoid predictable routines

– Keep entrances, exits, and emergency routes clear

– Train employees on robbery response procedures

– Be alert for suspicious behaviour around the premises

– Work with local security structures and community policing forums

During a robbery:

– Stay calm and do not resist

– Do not make sudden movements

– Prioritise the safety of people over property

– Avoid arguing or provoking suspects

– Observe details only if it can be done safely (clothing, vehicle, direction of escape)

“After a robbery, report the incident to SAPS immediately, do not touch or tamper with possible evidence and the crime scene. Any person who may need police help can contact Sebokeng SAPS on 016 466 2047, 082 498 9563, 112, 10111, 08600 10111 or alternatively via MySAPS.”
