Calls for Zwane’s safe return as police intensify their search
The march, followed by a prayer service and pamphlet distribution, highlighted the community's support for Zwane's family.
MEYERTON – Members of the Change Bible Church in Vanderbijlpark, led by Bishop Mandla Mthethwa and Lady Bishop Thandi Mthethwa, joined various stakeholders, the Meyerton SAPS and community members to walk the streets of Meyerton on July 4, calling for the safe return of Naledi Zwane (21).
The march was followed by a prayer and the distribution of pamphlets containing information about her disappearance to more than 300 community members.

This follows the NWU students’ disappearance on June 9. Zwane was on her way to the Meyerton Licensing Department but never made it to her appointment. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing black pants and Adidas sneakers. She is described as having straight black hair.
Bishop Mthethwa said Zwane is a leader and Sunday School teacher at their church, adding that her parents are committed members of the church. He said it is very important for the church to show love and support for the family during this difficult time.

“We saw it as important to rally around the family and to raise awareness in the Meyerton Community. We are appealing to the community and the rest of South Africa to come forward. Someone must have seen something on the day. We are hopeful for her safe return.”
On July 7, a search operation was carried out by the Meyerton SAPS working with the CPF, private security, and other stakeholders. The search commenced at the family home in Three Rivers and continued to the nearby river. Gender-Based Violence Co-ordinator Warrant Officer Seipati Mohlapholi was present during the search.
Police spokesperson Constable Nompumelelo Zazini said, “The Investigating Officer in the matter is working tirelessly to ensure the victim is found. The police are working around the clock on the matter, but despite extensive efforts, Naledi has not been found.”

Station Commander Colonel Senzangakona Christopher Mohale pleaded with the community to assist with any information regarding Naledi’s whereabouts, citing that police will leave no stone unturned.
“Gender-based violence and femicide remain a concern and a burning issue in this country. We need to protect and serve every citizen, especially vulnerable groups,” Mohale said.

Zazini reiterated the SAPS’ commitment to serving the community with integrity and keeping it safe. She stated that investigations into Zwane’s disappearance are still ongoing. The Meyerton SAPS is pleading with anyone with information to come forward to assist in finding Naledi Zwane. Contact the Meyerton CSC on 082 822 7680.
