GAUTENG.- Police in Gauteng have been praised for stopping a suspected cash-in-transit robbery gang before they could strike.

The Acting National Commissioner of the SAPS, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, commended officers from the police service and the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department for their swift joint action.

Law enforcement teams, working alongside intelligence structures and detectives, had been tracking the gang in connection with several serious and violent crimes across the province.

Acting on crucial information, officers raided a property in Daveyton on the East Rand on Wednesday evening.

During the search, officers seized seven rifles, one pistol, reflector jackets, and a hijacked BMW X5.

Although known suspects managed to flee the scene, an overnight manhunt was immediately launched to locate and arrest them.

Dimpane said that the operation demonstrates the police force’s firm commitment to tackling cash-in-transit (CIT) syndicates and protecting communities.

“We have made significant inroads in dismantling CIT syndicates, and we will continue to deal decisively with those who terrorise our communities and endanger the lives of innocent citizens,” said Lieutenant General Dimpane.

She warned those involved in organised robbery that intelligence capabilities are constantly improving and that law enforcement will hunt down suspects to ensure they face justice.

Investigations remain ongoing, with further arrests anticipated as the search intensifies.
