Police attached to the Kliprivier SAPS, together with various stakeholders, were on the ground on August 4, where they carried out an awareness campaign on matters related to gender-based violence (GBV) and sexual assault along the R550.

The campaign targeted motorists and street vendors operating along the busy route.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Tintswalo Ndhambi says the objective of the campaign was to educate the public on the dangers of GBV and sexual assault.

“We encouraged the public to report incidents and uphold a culture of respect and safety within our communities.”

Ndhambi says 100 information pamphlets were distributed.

“The pamphlets contained details on GBV, available support services, and contact numbers for victims to seek help.”

Ndhambi reiterates that GBV and sexual assault are serious crimes.

“Perpetrators will be prosecuted, and victims will be supported. Community members are urged to report any incidents to the nearest police station on 071 675 7297 or contact the GBV Command Centre on 0800 428 428.”

SAPS and stakeholders remain committed to visible policing, community education, and partnerships that create safer environments for all road users and residents of Kliprivier.
