Midvaal Municipality brought older residents together in Meyerton to celebrate Older Persons Week and promote healthy, active ageing.

Midvaal Local Municipality brought together residents aged 60 and older to mark Older Persons Week. The programme, focusing on active ageing, healthy living and social inclusion, was carried out at the Meyerton Town Hall on September 23.

In his keynote address, Mayor Peter Teixeira recognised the contributions made by older residents and reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to their wellbeing. MMC for Community Services Mary-Anne Myburgh delivered the opening remarks.

Representatives from SASSA, the Department of Health, Meyerton SAPS, the Vaal Elderly Organisation and other partners shared practical information on health, safety and support services.

Residents also enjoyed a meal, entertainment and intergenerational activities. The programme reflects Midvaal’s commitment to the care of and inclusion of older persons.
