SEDIBENG.– Each Ward Councillor Candidate of the South African Communist Party (SACP) in the upcoming Local Government Election (LGE) is expected to help establish one communal burial society in their ward.
This is revealed in the SACP’s ‘Implementation of the SACP’s Vaal District Manifesto’.

SACP VAAL District, Thembinkosi Pulu, said that the initiative aims to tackle the rising cost of funerals, which makes it hard for families to give loved ones a dignified farewell, which they refer to as one ward, one burial society.

The Manifesto also promises:
• Establishing one co-operative per church in each ward, with a focus on investment in education
• Re-industrialise Powerville Park and revive the steel industry in the area
• Review grave costs and discriminatory policies
• Review the terminology used for the indigent programme, “as the term may undermine the dignity of people registered for assistance”
• Members have been appointed to examine policy options in response to the escalating cost of municipal services, including rates and taxes
To lead the election campaign across the region, the party has appointed municipal champions for each area to serve as the face of the electioneering campaign in the different Sedibeng municipalities.
They are:
