Community rallies behind TB Survivor local Netball Tournament

The organisers plan to make the event an annual one.

SHARPEVILLE.- The Tshepiso Sports Centre was buzzing over the weekend as the Palesa Sekantse TB Survivor Awareness Netball Games came to a successful close.

The U15 tournament was held to mark TB Awareness Month and show support for those recovering from the illness. The event specifically honoured Palesa Sekantse, a local netball player for the Vaal All Stars Sports Club, who has bravely shared her journey as a survivor.

Palesa Sekantse TB Survivor Awareness Netball Games was a great success.

Themba Zwelibanze, the organiser behind the initiative from ‘Don’t Do Crime’, praised Sekantse for her courage. He noted that it isn’t easy for athletes to speak openly about their health struggles.

“I really respect her”

“People like Palesa are role models. She is educating other sportsmen and women by coming forward. I really respect her, and we will make sure she gets the support she needs,” Zwelibanze told Sedibeng Ster Sport.

Tournament set to become an annual event

The event received a fantastic turnout, with Zwelibanze highlighting the overwhelming support from local teams, stakeholders, and the community. The tournament is set to become an annual event to continue supporting Sekantse and raising awareness.

Zwelibanze concluded by saying that Sekantse’s passion for sport is an inspiration, and the community is committed to standing by her as she continues her journey.
