Orlando Pirates still betting big on Vaal-born talent

Balakasi is certainly knock on the first team's door.

SEDIBENG.- For years, Orlando Pirates have been known for signing exceptional talent from the Vaal. This has been happening since the days of Joseph ‘China’ Masondo, Steve ‘Chippa’ Lekoele, Phiri Tsotetsi, Sailor Tshabalala, Motlatsi ‘Boom Shaka’ Mohopoeloa, and Thabo Rakgake, to mention but a few.

The current crop of players from Vaal that play for the club are Relebohile Mofokeng, Tshepang Moremi, Thabiso Lebitso, Mpho Chabatsane, and Boitumelo Radiopane.

Balakasi is a rising star

The club has also had some exciting talent from the Vaal in their development structure, including their Reserve Team and the ABC Motsepe League team. Mthokozisi Balakasi from Muvhango in Bophelong is another youngster from the Vaal who plays for Orlando Pirates in the DStv Diski Challenge and ABC Motsepe League.

He is one of the exceptional talents who has already caught the eye of the first team’s technical staff. This former Kaizer Chiefs development forward is a deadly striker of the Pirates’ ABC Motsepe League team.

Sedibeng Ster Sport caught up with him after Orlando Pirates played to a 1-1 draw against Jomo Cosmos in the ABC Motsepe League match at the Isak Steyl Stadium on Tuesday. Balakasi came in as a substitute in the second half for Pirates.

He makes his presence felt

When he came in, he was cheered by his family and friends on the stands. The score was 1-0 in favour of Cosmos when he came in, and immediately, he made his presence known. Balakasi came in when the Pirates were desperate for an equalizing goal.

No doubt, Balakasi is one of the club’s ABC Motsepe League team players fighting for promotion to the senior team.
