SHARPEVILLE.- Metro Stars FC forced their way back into the SAFA Sedibeng Hollywoodbets Men’s Regional League’s title race after a shock 1-0 victory over Perfect Academy.

The high-stakes clash at George Thabe Stadium on Saturday saw Stars prove the doubters wrong. Heading into the match, many had written off Metro Stars, who sat fourth in the table just behind third-placed Perfect Academy.

It was an exciting game to watch with a heroic performance from the Stars FC goalkeeper. His series of brilliant saves ensured his side walked away with all three points, continuing a recent trend in the league where shot-setters are becoming the match-winners.

While the official league table is still being updated, the win puts Stars and Academy level on 48 points, separated only by goal difference. However, the road ahead remains tough. Ben 10 FC is currently at the top with 55 points after a 3-1 win over Army Gym Shooting Stars (22 games played).

Boipatong FC is second with 52 points (23 games played). Perfect Academy is third/fourth with 48 points (21 games played). Both Ben 10 FC and Perfect Academy hold games in hand, giving them a slight advantage as the season reaches its climax.

In fact, this is how Perfect Academy conceded their goal, trying to build from the back, even if they are under pressure.

Perfect Academy created fair enough chances to win this game, but failed to convert them. Despite the setback, Perfect Academy coach Sechaba Mofokeng remains defiant.
