Football fever hits Vanderbijlpark as RESA welcomes Chiefs and Sundowns

“Bring your own camping chair because it is going to be a long day of exciting football."

VANDERBIJLPARK.- The local football community is bracing for an action-packed Sunday as the Remember Elite Sports Academy (RESA) prepares to host the rising stars of Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns tomorrow, Sunday.

These highly anticipated Gauteng Development League (GDL) fixtures will take place at the Curro Vanderbijlpark grounds, situated right next to NWU Vaal.

It is going to be action galore with four matches scheduled throughout the day, starting from 09:00. The opening clash sees the home side, RESA, go head-to-head with the Amakhosi youngsters in the U14 division.

This will be followed at 10:30 by a heavyweight encounter between Mamelodi Sundowns and Panorama FC, who currently sit second and third on the league table, respectively.

The GDL is renowned for showcasing the future of South African football. Both Chiefs and Sundowns have a prestigious history of producing household names through their youth ranks, with Mfundo Vilakazi being the most recent standout to graduate from the Chiefs academy.

In the third match of the day, RESA’s U15s face a massive challenge against a table-topping Kaizer Chiefs side. With RESA currently sitting in fourth place, they are desperate for a win to climb higher in the standings. As the only team from Sedibeng competing in this elite stream, RESA has consistently proven they belong among the best academies in the province.

The day’s programme concludes with a showdown between the RESA and Kaizer Chiefs U19 teams. RESA Managing Director Xolani Mathumbo has called on local supporters and parents to turn out in force to cheer on these young athletes

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Mathumbo said it is going to be an exciting day of football.

“Bring your own camping chair because it is going to be a long day of exciting football. Your support will be appreciated on the day,” said Mathumbo.
