Huge turnout lights up Sasolburg Tennis Courts for mixed-doubles event

SASOLBURG.- The Sedibeng Tennis Club’s Mixed Doubles Tournament was a huge success, attracting a massive turnout of players.
The tournament was hosted in conjunction with the Vaal River Tennis Development and took place at the Sasolburg Tennis Courts on Saturday.

The men’s and women’s doubles event followed the theme “Green and White – Let’s Light the Court,” and participants strictly adhered to the dress code, beautifully filling the courts with the chosen colours.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, event organiser Jonny Makgalemele described the day as a massive success. He said he was completely overwhelmed by the fantastic turnout. According to Makgalemele, the main purpose of the mixed-doubles tournament was to recruit more boys, girls, men, and women into the sport.

While he is convinced that tennis in Sedibeng is moving in the right direction, Makgalemele noted that a lack of proper facilities remains their biggest challenge.
There are no proper facilities in Sedibeng.
For instance, organisers had to host this specific tournament at the Sasolburg Tennis Courts because there are no proper tennis facilities in Sedibeng, especially within the townships.

Reflecting on the day’s play, Makgalemele expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the event.
It was a day well spent, and everyone enjoyed themselves.
“I want to thank everyone who contributed to the success of this tournament, and we are looking forward to next year’s tournament again. It was a great day of tennis development, with young and old coming in numbers to participate in this mixed-doubles tournament. It was a day well spent, and everyone enjoyed themselves,” he concluded.
