SEBOKENG.- An interesting development took place at the Emfuleni Local Football Association (ELFA) over the weekend.

A brand-new Executive Committee was elected on Sunday at the Soul Tsotetsi Sports Centre in Zone 14.

Mfanafuthi Masondo, one of the longest-serving members in grassroots football, was elected as the new chairperson. He took over from Jabu Mgcina, who had led the association for a long time.

This election followed strong feelings from local clubs that the association under Mgcina’s leadership was not taking them anywhere, which ultimately led to the previous leadership being forced out of office.

In a dramatic turn of events, none of the previous executive committee members retained a seat in office following the vote.

Alongside Masondo, Junior Gusha was elected as the first deputy chairperson, Mami Hlalele as the second deputy, and Joseph Matlhong as the third deputy. Nhlanhla Mthembu was elected treasurer for the newly formed committee.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Masondo said he is confident that he is going to transform this troublesome association together with his newly elected executive committee.

Masondo is a seasoned football administrator who previously served as the ELFA league co-ordinator under Bushy Nale’s leadership.
