SHARPEVILLE.- Two Lekoa Athletics Club young runners, Antonia Mothakama (15) and Samantha Morebuli (16), were part of the hundreds who participated in the Rand Water Vaal River City Marathon at Isak Steyl Stadium on September 13.

Sedibeng Ster Sport bumped into them at the finishing line, running in the colours of this legendary club.
This Vaal club produces international athletes.

We want to follow in the footsteps of Mr Dlomo.

Norman Dlomo is one of the club’s most prominent products and went on to represent South Africa on the international stage, including the Olympic Games. He ran in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and finished 53rd.

In an interview with Sedibeng Ster Sport, the young athletes said they had just finished their 5km Fun Run and that their ambition is to represent South Africa at the Olympics. They said they want to follow in the footsteps of Dlomo, who is also a product of the same club. Mothakama and Morebuli said their wish is to meet Dlomo because their coach always tells them about him.

“He set the standard for all of us here at Lekoa Athletics Club. He demonstrated that anything is possible regardless of where you come from. We cannot wait to meet him and ask him what it is like to represent your country at that level,” they told Sedibeng Ster Sport in a joint interview.
