Evaton cemetery rapist sentenced to life
Mlaba was found guilty of 26 charges of rape, robbery under aggravating circumstances, compelled rape, sexual assault, kidnapping and theft respectively.
Evaton cemetery serial rapist Teko Andrew Mlaba (29) from Palmsprings was recently sentenced to one life, 200 years and six months, after he raped and robbed 9 women in the Vaal Triangle starting from 2010.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable John Mokoena, from the SAPS Gauteng Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Investigations unit said that Mlaba’s modus operandi was that he would pretend to be a patroller, working with the police.
“He was always in possession of a firearm and handcuffs. He would tell the victims that there is a known group of thugs waiting along the route to rob them.
He would subsequently convince them to take a so-called safe route.
When he and his victim reached a secluded spot, he would produce a firearm and put handcuffs on the victim, rape them repeatedly and rob them.”
Mokoena stated that Mlaba was arrested in 2014 and police conducted thorough investigations and collected all the necessary evidence in order to present a ‘water-tight’ case against him.
“He was arrested by my colleagues from Vereeniging SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Investigations. Although Mlaba initially had 30 counts against him, He was found guilty of 26 charges of rape, robbery under aggravating circumstances, compelled rape, sexual assault, kidnapping and theft respectively.”
Mokoena states that the judgement served to rehabilitate the perpetrators and ensure that they do not become repeat offenders, as well as to ensure that the victims also go on to lead their normal lives even after the ordeal they had to go through.
“This man will never rape again because he will be away for life.
This also sends a very strong message to other men who think they can get away with rape, that they will also find themselves in the same shoes as those of Mlaba who has been sentenced to life.”
