Communities urged to vaccinate

Thembelihle Mkhunjulwa, Vaccination Coordinator at Sebokeng Hospital has urged members of the community who are eligible to get vaccinated to heed the call and visit their nearest vaccination site to get the life saving jab.

SEBOKENG. -Mkhunjulwa says that it is crucial for people to get information from reliable sources so that they are able to make informed decisions about getting vaccinated against Covid-19.

“Our hospitals are currently under immense pressure and as a result, the waiting time for patients waiting for assistance is verly long. “Getting vaccinated will help in that people will not need to go to hospital if ever they should test positive for Covid-19. They will experience mild symptoms and be able to recover from home.”

Upon Ster’s visit to the hospital, over 1400 educators had been vaccinated with the Johnson and Johnson Vaccine.

“We are getting a good response from teachers and soon we will be done with them. Once we are done, we will go back to vaccinating members of the community who are eligible to get the jab.”

Sebokeng Hospital has the biggest vaccination site in the Vaal. “Most vaccinators working in other sites were trained here at the hospital. This is after we went to Baragwanath Hospital and observed how they were doing their vaccination rollouts which helped us with bench marking.”

Mkhunjulwa said that the capacity they have is enough to assist in a case where there is a large number of people that need to get their jabs.

“There have not been any challenges. The standard we came back with from Baragwanath worked to our advantage. Vaccinations have been going smoothly this far.”

Mkhunjulwa says they are ready to continue the rollout with vaccinations for the people over 50.

“This however does not mean that other people that are eligible will be turned back. No one should be turned back from a vaccination site unless they do not qualify as per the guidelines given by government. Our goal is to vaccinate 66% of the population and save lives.”
