Haemona thanks department for critical funding

Haemona Children’s Home receives first-quarter subsidy funding from the Department of Social Development, bringing relief to staff and supporting 41 vulnerable children.

The Haemona Children’s Home has received a vital financial lifeline following a timely subsidy payment from the Department of Social Development. The funding for the first quarter has brought much-needed relief to both the staff and the 41 children currently living at the facility.

The home, located in the Sedibeng region, provides care and shelter for orphans, homeless children, and young people aged between 2 and 18 who have suffered abuse or neglect.

Manager Seipati Motloung expressed deep gratitude to the department for prioritising their facility alongside other child and youth care centres around Sebokeng.

Motloung revealed that the team was absolutely delighted when they discovered the funds had been paid. The application was submitted via email because the staff members were not yet familiar with the department’s new Grantor system.

The late Pastor Buti Madiko established the home in 2011 after identifying a pressing need for a safe environment to protect vulnerable children and those living on the streets within the community. The facility was later officially registered as a non-profit organisation with the Department of Social Development in 2015.
