Meyerton residents voice safety concerns at engagement

Residents and police came together at Meyerton Park during a community engagement led by Meyerton SAPS Station Commander Colonel Senzangakona Christopher Mohale.

To strengthen the relationship between community members and police, Meyerton SAPS station commander Colonel Senzangakona Christopher Mohale led a community engagement at Meyerton Park.
The objective of the engagement was to explore ways to combat crime in the area with various stakeholders and the community.

During the engagement, the community highlighted challenges such as the police reaction period and visibility. They stated that they do not feel safe as they don’t see police patrolling their area. Police spokesperson Constable Nompumelelo Zazini said the engagement was productive, as both community members and the SAPS contributed ideas and strategies to help combat crime in the area.

Colonel Mohale explained the importance of partnership between the Police and the community. He further highlighted that the community must be the eyes and ears of the police, as this will make policing effective and ensure that criminal activities are reported timeously.

The Vereeniging FCS unit addressed matters of gender-based violence. The meeting concluded with the resolution to revive sector Forums.
