Update: Teen murdered in Trafalgar named

An identikit of a possible suspect has been released.

THE young holidaymaker murdered for her cellphone at Trafalgar last Wednesday has been identified as 15-year-old Shayleen van Zanten.

Shayleen arrived from Pretoria last Tuesday to join family for a Christmas break. She and a friend went for a walk to the beach at Trafalgar at about 6pm when they were accosted by a man who demanded her cellphone. When she refused to had it over, the man stabbed her.

An identikit of a possible suspect has since been released . At the time of the attack he was dressed in a red T-shirt, black knee length shorts and slops which were too big for his feet.

According to media reports, Shayleen was a grade 9 pupil at Eldoraigne High School in Centurion.

She was described at a very strong and independent person. She was a very keen ice hockey player and belonged to the Knights Ice Hockey Club.

The Trafalgar Community Policing Forum has offered a reward of  R18 000  for information leading to a conviction.

SAPS has also offered a reward. Anyone with information is asked to contact Captain Manus Erasmus at 082 3307422 or their nearest police station.
