Major pipeline burst leaves northern South Coast areas without water

Residents from Umtentweni to Hibberdene are among those affected as repair teams work to restore supply.

Residents supplied by the Bobhoyi Northern Line are experiencing a water interruption following a break on a 450mm main pipeline.

In a public notice issued by Ugu District Municipality, the interruption was attributed to a burst on the main line from the Bobhoyi Water Treatment Plant next to the Illovo Sugar Cane Farm.

Municipal teams are currently isolating the main valves on the northern supply line while the necessary materials are being gathered to carry out repairs.

As a precaution to prevent a total collapse of the water supply system, the municipality has closed supply to several reservoirs.

The affected areas include:

  • Protea Park
  • Louisiana
  • KwaMadlala
  • Umtentweni to Hibberdene

Ugu District Municipality said further updates will be communicated as more information becomes available.

The municipality apologised for the inconvenience and thanked residents for their patience and understanding. Residents can also follow updates via the municipality’s WhatsApp line on 072 312 1232.
