Teamwork leads to recovery of stolen trucks in Park Rynie, Tsolo
Two truck-related incidents have highlighted the effectiveness of police, security companies and vehicle-tracking services working together to recover stolen vehicles.
Two men have been arrested after a white Power Star tipper truck was stolen in Umzinto.
According to police reports, Netstar tracking company summoned Mthatha Flying Squad members when coordinates revealed that the truck was in the Tsolo policing precinct.
The duo, aged 24 and 31, were subsequently nabbed near the Gotyibeni area on August 15.
They will be charged with unlawful possession of a suspected stolen vehicle and are expected to appear in the Tsolo Magistrate’s Court.
The acting OR Tambo District Commissioner, Brigadier Vukile Ntuli applauded the collaboration between police and the private tracking company.
In a separate incident, which occurred on August 11, Gladiator Security Services, Umzinto K9 and Cartrack received information about a hijacked truck on the R612 which was being driven towards Park Rynie.
The vehicle was identified, and members gave chase. The truck was intercepted and recovered in the Alkins Drive area in Park Rynie.
Unfortunately, in this case, the suspect fled. The vehicle was handed over to Scottburgh Saps for further investigation.
