‘Bling’ rules at this year’s Scottburgh Classic Car Show

IT will all be about dazzling chrome and extravagant tails and fins as fabulously flashy American models steal the limelight at this year’s Scottburgh Classic Car Show at Scottburgh High School on Sunday, July 19.

Every year the organisers single out a different marque as their featured cars at the show. This year they have decided on something a little different and will turn the spotlight on great American classic automobiles. There will be an abundance of bling as the grand ladies line up to show off their attributes to the thousands of classic car enthusiasts who are expected to attend the show.

According to Peter Fielding, the brains behind this annual automotive feast, these magnificent, somewhat over-the-top machines represented an era of optimism and luxury in America. Consumer goods had been designed to reflect this opulence after years of war and economic strain, he explained.

All pre-1975 cars and motorbikes are eligible to be on display. They will have the opportunity to drive around the huge field perimeter after the four organised parades, one featuring the great American classics, one featuring classic motorcycles, the ‘History of my Car’ parade and the grand Concours d’Élegance. Exhibitors taking part in the Concours d’Élegance are asked to dress up in keeping with the decade in which their vehicle was manufactured. Two best dressed couples will each win R1 000 in cash. There will be many other spot prizes for well dressed visitors, too.

It will be a time to turn back the clock to yesteryear and surround yourself with classic machinery while being serenaded with music of the 50s and 60s, so don’t miss this, one of KwaZulu-Natal’s most important motoring events.
