Braai at Crocworld this Heritage Day
LUSH coastal forest, stunning sea views and a myriad of interesting animal species roaming the expansive grounds – Crocworld Conservation Centre is the perfect family spot for this year’s Heritage Day braai. And with its annual discounted rates, it is an opportunity not to be missed.
This year, for the first time, the public not only enters for half price on Wednesday, September 24, but is also invited to braai within the park at one of four large communal braais conveniently located near the children’s play area.
When not attending to lunch, visitors can enjoy the reptile and bird park with a distinctly ‘botanical’ feel or meander through the indigenous gardens, while children can visit the petting zoo or let loose in the playground area.
Reptile-lovers will be captivated by the 180 crocodiles – from four species – in the open-air enclosures and 15 species of venomous and non-venomous snakes within the snake tunnel.
Martin Rodrigues, manager of Crocworld Conservation Centre, said visitors will be able to catch the snake demonstration at 11.30am. The crocodile feeding and talk on crocodiles takes place at 11am and again at 3pm.
The grounds are also home to a wide variety of natural wildlife including banded mongoose, blue duiker, bush buck and vervet monkey. For those preferring the winged creatures, 200 species of wild birds have been identified at the centre, including the beautiful narina trogon and even a pair of palm nut vultures.
“I think that it is a fantastic way to celebrate Heritage Day, as a family having a good time and gaining knowledge in the process. The half price special only happens once a year, on Heritage Day, and we hope that our local residents come to the centre and enjoy the day out,” said Martin.
People are also welcome to bring a picnic basket and enjoy a picnic within the grounds of the park.
All entrance into the park is half price on the day. The cost is R30 for adults, R20 for children and R22.50 for pensioners. The centre is open between 8am and 4.30pm.
