Busy weekend for music lovers

TWO great musos, Nibs van der Spuy and Anton Cawthorn-Blazeby of the legendary South African outfit, Landscape Prayers, will share The Rock Music Bistro stage this Saturday, May 9, from 1pm.

Back at The Rock by popular demand, Phil Moffet, an incredible slap harmonic guitarist, singer and songwriter, will kick off the Sunday afternoon ‘pull in, plug in and play’ session, at about 1.30pm. He has done two previous gigs at The Rock and is hugely popular there.

Next in line will be up-and-coming Cape Town folk, punk group, ‘The Shabeen’ that will surely keep you dancing. Having gigged extensively locally and internationally as part of various bands, Jon Shaban has decided to try something slightly scarier – a solo career.

Armed with just his voice and his guitar, he takes to the stage to deliver songs to which his listeners can relate. The performance is raw and there’s no holding back on the sharing of extremely personal experiences.

However, he is also part of the exciting new ‘The Shabeen’, a band he put together to back the songs he has written. The band’s performance is raw and energetic and leaves the crowd wide-eyed and wanting more. As well as Jon on guitar and vocals, there is Ryan McArthur, one of South Africa’s top upright bass players, and Thomas Glendinning on drums and percussion.
