Cape Town band at New Year gig

‘BLACK South Easter’ will blow into The Rock Music Bistro, Umzumbe to chase away the cobwebs as the year comes to an end.

The Cape Town band, described by critics as an ‘incredible music sensation’ will be rocking it out at The Rock’s New Year’s Eve bash on Wednesday, December 31. The band is named after the the uplifting and revitalising winds that blow across the Cape Peninsula and the music reflects this favourable wind.

Its unique and original progressive groove mixes the best of local flavours including rock, reggae, soul and dance. With infectious grooves and soaring melodies the band captivates its audience with its typically South African celebration.

Singer Nhoza Sitsholwana, who comes from a musical family in the rural Eastern Cape, launched her career as a backing vocalist for Simphiwe Dana at 17 years. Her powerful voice incorporates rich blues tones with elements of traditional African soul music. Bassist Jimi Curve brings a pulsating groove to the outfit and has played with many well known artists including Steve Newman and Arno Carstens. Mozambican drummer Jerry Mbowa delivers a seasoned palette of Pan-African beats to the music and has toured extensively with the likes of ‘The Sons of Selassie’, amongst others.

Guitarist Dan Boshoff uses unusual tunings and progressions to bring an original colour to the songs whilst saxophonist Vaughn Tromp adds a warm sound to the band, having gained years of experience travelling the world with Lucky Dube and Gito Baloi.

Tickets for this event will be R150 and this includes snack platters throughout the evening as well as this amazing musical experience.
