Catch the new Umtamvuna Sardine Festival

The inaugural Umtamvuna Sardine Festival will be held from July 6 to July 8 at Mattison Square, in Port Edward.

Festival organiser, Mark Levine, said visitors can also enjoy a wide range of activities and entertainment, including food and craft stalls, live music, nature reserves, running, walking and mountain biking trails, Zulu and Portuguese dancers, children’s games, a treasure hunt and much more.

“For food lovers, don’t miss the Umtamvuna Sardine Food and Wine Festival at MacBanana lifestyle centre. Festival entertainment will be provided by deejay Riaan Brits and emcee Eddie George, fire dancers, live music performers, The Gentry and more,” he said.

He added that there will be lots of prizes to be won, plus a Miss Umtamvuna pageant and a treasure hunt. A fund-raiser for the SPCA and an auction for the Portuguese Monument will be part of this year’s festival. There will also be a Mariners’ Mass on Sunday, July 8.

“If you have ever wondered about the story of the famous Portuguese shipwreck, the Sao Joao, Cllr Dave Watson will be sharing it with festivalgoers as part of the programme,” said Mark.
