It was all about top-class volleyball action from the first point to the last at Port Shepstone Volleyball Association’s (PVSA) fundraiser for Child Welfare Port Shepstone at the Inkanini Sports Complex in Mtwalume last Saturday.

Some R17 000 was raised for welfare.

Seventeen KZN teams fought hard for the title, and as always, there can only be one winner.

The champions in the women’s division were an unstoppable local team, Sideout Saints, which took on Belvedere Raiders from Durban in the final and showcased world-class form.

In the men’s division, Magnum Predator from Tongaat Volleyball Association lived up to its name and won against locals, Sideout Cobras.

PVSA’s PRO Letitia Stoffels said it was a day of action and non-stop diving, flying spikes, impossible saves, sore knees, burning calves, and hearts that just refused to quit.

“These weren’t just games; it was war on the court for every single point. Well done to all teams, coaches, players, referees, spectators and food vendors for making this tournament a huge success. We thank our sponsors, Megastar Wholesalers, KZN Volleyball and Aqua Darshan,” said Letitia.

The most valuable player in the men’s division was Jonas Mothobi from Magnum Predator, with Wandile Miya from Sideout Saints taking the women’s division.

Xolisile Qauka was named best women’s attacker, and Reolan Ramdeen won the men’s title.

Best setters went to Amber Little and Quwin Naidoo; best blockers were Yasmin Rajak and Kevins Mugovera; and best defenders were Leah Vasudavan and Nigel Jagdeo.

The next tournament, which is a knockout, will be held at the Nkanini Sports Complex on October 31.
