Conservancy hosts musical picnic
PICNIC in beautiful Eyles Park in Southbroom and help to raise funds for Cancer.vive, an organisation, run by cancer survivors, that creates awareness of cancer prevention and recognition at schools and in rural areas.
Southbroom Conservancy and the Cancer Association of South Africa are hosting this fund-raising ‘Concert in the Park’, at Eyles Park on Sunday, July 6, starting at noon.
Pack a picnic lunch or a braai, your braai tongs, refreshments and chairs. Braai fires will be available. Guests can also pre-order a picnic box, a prego roll and salad or soup and a roll.
The braai fires will be lit at noon and the Mtwalume Brass Band will provide background music as guests arrive.
Charming Arina de Witt, who studied music and drama at Stellenbosch, has made her name as a singer of gospel music, popular ballads and light classical music. She will sing at 2.20pm.
Local saxophonist Vicky de Villiers, who often contributes her talents to performances by the much-loved professional KwaZulu-Natal jazz group, ‘Platform Jazz’, will be on stage at 2.50pm.
A special treat will be a performance by internationally renowned baritone Wiseman Ntombela at 3.30pm. A local talent, Wiseman was a member of the choir that opened for Ladysmith Black Mambazo in Paris recently.
Arina will close the musical programme with another performance at 4pm.
Please note that tickets, at R85 per person, should be bought before the concert. They are available at Margate Furnishers or contact Dawne Murray at 083 7032171. And don’t forget there will be prizes for the best-dressed picnic spots. Picnickers can go classic, casual, quirky or even outrageous.
