Diarise this motoring date

PETROL heads should diarise a red-letter motoring event, the Scottburgh Classic Car Club’s sixth annual classic car show.

This popular event will move to a new venue this year. It takes place at Scottburgh High School on Sunday, July 19. Classic car clubs are invited to take part in this day of motoring fun and nostalgia and to help raise money for charity.

Last year’s event was extremely successful with over 5000 visitors and about 450 classic vehicles taking part. The programme included a History of my Car Parade and a Concours d’Elegance Parade, with drivers and passengers dressed according to the period of their vehicles.

Two entrants won cash prizes of R500 each for their efforts. Big prizes are to be won again this year so club members are encouraged to dress up and enter.

Each year the organisers feature a different marque and have already showcased MG, Triumph, Jaguar and Austin Healey. This year will be the turn of the Great American Classics with their fins and chrome. The cut-off date for show vehicles and motorcycles remains unchanged at 1975. Later models will be admitted provided that they come as members of participating classic car clubs. Please not that all classic cars entering the show ground must carry a fire extinguisher.

Supercars and other classics of special interest will be invited by special invitation and windscreen stickers will be issued to these exhibitors before the show. Please understand that these qualifications are necessary to ensure that the the show does not degenerate into a display of modern vehicles. It will remain a classic car show for genuine classic car enthusiasts.

Gates open on Sunday at 7.30am for classic car exhibitors and 9am for visitors. The show is in aid of local charities and institutions. This year’s beneficiaries ware still be announced. A voluntary donation of R5 will be requested from each classic vehicle/bike that wishes to exhibit on the field.
