Easter music feast in Umzumbe

HEAD for The Rock Music Bistro on Easter Sunday, April 6 from 1.30pm and expect a lively afternoon jam-packed with excellent and varied music.

Charles Webster, who hails from the Midlands, where he runs his own music venue, will open the programme of sensational music. Much applauded and popular Rock entertainer Sara Jackson and her partner, Ricki, will take over from Charles.

After 15 years of writing songs and performing nationally and internationally Sara sums up her music as “Dylanesque storytelling and unconventional poetry mixed into an emotionally charged universal sound.”

Since nervously singing her first covers on a small stage at the age of 14 years, she has performed at bonfires and birthdays, on stages in Sweden, at folk clubs in England, at jams, weddings, funerals, functions, celebrations and at marvellous music festivals like White Mountain, Zini and Earthdance.

After she returned from Sweden in January 2009, her passion and love of music saw her collaborating with Brendan Bristow to organize the Zini Music Festival, the first of an annual event held at Natures Way Backpackers in Mtunzini. Having grown up there, Sara felt the need to share Durban’s hive of audio activity with the North Coast.

Next in the Easter Sunday line-up will be David ‘Qadasi’ Jenkins, an accomplished maskandi musician who developed a deep passion for Zulu culture and music at a young age. Based in Durban, Qadasi is on a quest to bring back traditional Zulu maskandi music, while crossing over to more western styles. He performs regularly as an acoustic duo alongside close friend, mentor and solo artiste, Maqhinga Radebe, who will be there to share The Rock stage with him at the Easter musical afternoon.
