‘Freebie’ walk starts rambling year

WALKING in Nature ramblers are back in action after a prolonged Christmas break, so if you’d like to join them for their first 2014 ramble, then be at Southbroom beach on Sunday, March 2, at 7.30am.

“With members of conservation organisations so busy during the Christmas holidays, it has been far too long a time since we had our last walk. Usually our walks are hosted by conservation organisations as fund-raisers. To get the ball rolling this year, I am simply organising a fun walk, with no entry fee, lucky draw prizes or post-walk catering,” said walk organiser Dave Halle.

From Southbroom main beach, ramblers can head south and stroll along one of the Hibiscus Coast’s most beautiful stretches of beach for as far as they like before turning back. On the way back they can turn inland along the cool, shady trail through the exquisite little Frederika Nature Preserve.

Well behaved dogs are welcome to do the beach walk but are not allowed on the trail through the reserve. Riptide will be open for breakfast after the ramble.

“Perhaps you would like to wear a swimming costume so you can paddle or take a dip in the sea along the way. Wear a hat and lashings of sunscreen,” Dave advised. Should this walk be successful, he will organise more informal ‘freebie’ walks.

Green groups wishing to earn money for their organisation are welcome to organise a fund-raising ‘walk in nature’ of between 5km and 8km in length. Contact Dave with your suggestions and ideas at 082 3004283.
